Dr. Funke moved from Colombia, South America, to the Lowcountry in her teenage years and attended Summerville High School. She remained in the area for her undergraduate degree at the College of Charleston, studying biology, and moved on to the Medical University of South Carolina to study medicine and graduated with a Doctorate of Medicine from medical school and then internal medicine. Starting a family with her husband, a Summerville native, and her love for the Lowcountry influenced her to pursue a fellowship in Endocrinology at the Medical University in Charleston.
